Wanted: ME \u2013 without a background and gender-neutral.<\/p>\n

Who really knows who they are? Every society is happy to help (itself) in this regard and has fixed role models at the ready. Does this bring a person any closer to their own identity? Doubtful! What if a man or woman also strongly disagrees with this image, or has even immigrated from a country with different notions of gender roles? Then the issue of identity and self-assertion becomes even more complicated.
\nThe Italian macho Adamo has to play the housewife because Eva is the breadwinner. Amina, a transgender person, has fled persecution, and the young \u2018Old Fritz\u2019 declares: \u2018Everyone is free to be miserable in their own way.\u2019
\n\u2018Immigro ergo sum\u2019 is a view through a kaleidoscope. Like pieces of a jigsaw, the actors shift back and forth between roles and languages, constantly reforming, settling into a role and then breaking it down again \u2013 sometimes a dance, sometimes a fight, always a struggle for the right to exist.<\/p>\n

The play is performed in three languages with surtitles.<\/p>\n
